Technical terms for our products
This section brings together the terms and features found in the Hexagon Agriculture product catalogue. These are the names of the functions and systems you will find in the documentation, manuals, and product pages.
Auto Turn
-
A feature developed by Hexagon that automates the headland turning maneuver at the end of each field guidance line, repositioning the machine to begin the next guide. It reduces the operator's workload during transitions and improves turn consistency.

Automatic Steering
-
A system developed by Hexagon that automatically controls the steering of agricultural machinery to follow a predefined guide with GNSS-based precision. It reduces operator fatigue and improves field coverage accuracy

Control Room
-
Web application, used by our clients to view operation status in real-time and also to access historical data.

ECU
-
An Electronic Control Unit developed by Hexagon — an embedded electronic module that controls a specific function or subsystem within a machine or implement. ECUs typically manage implement sections, sensors, actuators, or application systems.

Guidance Lines
-
Reference paths defined in the field — straight, curved, or contour-based — that the Automatic Steering system uses to navigate the machine across the field. They can be created manually by the operator or imported from external sources.
Implement Control
-
A system that manages the operation of agricultural implements — such as planters, sprayers, and fertilizer applicators — connected to the machine. It controls section switching, application rates, and operational states based on field position and operator configuration.

ISOBUS
-
An agricultural communication standard that enables interoperability between tractors, displays, and implements from different manufacturers over a shared network. It allows a single display to control and monitor multiple ISOBUS-compatible implements.
ISOBUS ECU
-
The Electronic Control Unit developed by Hexagon that communicates using the ISOBUS protocol, allowing it to exchange data with a compatible display and other nodes on the ISOBUS network. It is the electronic controller embedded in or connected to an ISOBUS-compatible implement.
Localised Application
-
A feature developed by Hexagon that activates the applicator only at specific field locations — such as ant bait application points — minimizing waste and improving targeting accuracy. It operates as a specialized mode within the Implement Control system.

Machine Monitoring
-
A rule- and sensor-based system that monitors machine operation in real time. Designed for use on machines with an internet connection and with Control Room.

Model Predictive Controller (MPC)
-
An advanced steering control algorithm that anticipates the machine's future behavior to calculate optimal steering corrections in real time, delivering smoother and more accurate path tracking.
Planting Assistant
-
A software feature developed by Hexagon that provides real-time guidance and monitoring support during planting operations, helping the operator maintain correct speed, spacing, and section control.

Rate Control
-
A feature developed by Hexagon that automatically adjusts the application rate of inputs — such as seeds, fertilizers, or pesticides — based on a target value or a variable-rate prescription map. It controls the implement's dosing system in real time to match the desired application rate.

Section Control
-
A feature developed by Hexagon that automatically turns individual sections of an implement (such as a planter, sprayer, or spreader) on or off based on the machine's position in the field. It prevents overlaps and skips by deactivating sections over areas that have already been covered or that fall outside the defined application boundaries, reducing input waste and improving operational efficiency.
Simulated Speed
-
A manually set speed value that allows the system to simulate machine movement on the operation screen when no real speed signal is available from a GNSS receiver or wheel sensor.

Sprayer Control
-
Legacy name for a product developed by Hexagon whose functionality is now covered by Rate Control and Section Control. It was used for controlling liquid input application, such as pesticides, herbicides, or liquid fertilisers, across a field.

Track Controller
-
A hardware developed by Hexagon actuator that physically turns the steering wheel to execute automatic steering commands, without requiring hydraulic modifications to the machine.

Virtual Terminal (VT)
-
A display interface defined by the ISOBUS standard that renders the UI of connected implement controllers on a compatible display. It allows the operator to interact with implement functions without a dedicated screen on the implement.
